Notes on "Off-Trail":

•  I started this story intending to post it before "Quiver," but then I got the idea for "Haunted" and wanted to finish it by Hallowe'en, then came the next four, and this kinda fell by the wayside when I lost the thread. It was finished July 4, 2025.

•  Do I always intended for this to start with the classic Law & Order opening scene, where the hapless couple stumble upon a body.

•  Fenwick Hills is a fictional park, but is a tribute to both Katharine Hepburn (whose family's seaside home, Fenwick, was destroyed in the Hurricane of '38) and a favorite fanfic writer.

•  "Um...Y-shaped branch." - from the story "Survival."

•  I'm sorry I had to relegate Kaya to babysitting duties, but someone had to watch the kids while the detecting went on.

•  "a younger, geekier sister" - based on the quote from the episode "Probability."

•  "That's where all those police dramas get it wrong" - this was a response to the scene behind the crematorium in "Dead."

•  "Chipmunks chirp," - I didn't know this, either, until we visited America's Stonehenge.
